Inlays and Onlays
Inlays and onlays are often referred to as partial crowns. They use the existing tooth as a base and fit the inlay or onlay onto the tooth. This is done to strengthen the tooth, restore its shape, and prevent further damage.
They offer the advantage of preserving more tooth structure while offreing optimal protection and restoration of the weakened tooth .
The weakened area of the tooth is preapared during the procedure to enable the placement of the restoration. A mold of the tooth is then taken and sent to a dental lab where a customized restoration is made from porcelain, gold, or a composite resin. The customized restoration will restore the shape and function of a natural tooth and will match the appearance of the tooth as well.
